The Smart B100 Advanced Research Center (CCD-SB100) held its II Research Seminar on September 17 and 18, 2026, in Piracicaba (SP). The meeting marked the beginning of the Center’s third year of activities and brought together researchers, scholarship holders, representatives of partner institutions, and guests to present the scientific and technological advancements achieved so far and strengthen integration among the different areas involved in the project.
The II Research Seminar of CCD-SB100 also featured the participation of Daniel, CEO of Pecege, who was present at the activities held in Piracicaba.
Funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), with support from the São Paulo State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply, CCD-SB100 develops research that integrates agronomic and computational knowledge and different technologies aimed at soil management. Among its main products is the Smart B100 Platform, designed to integrate data and scientific knowledge, with generative artificial intelligence resources, and support decision-making processes in the agricultural sector.
The first day’s program began with an institutional opening that brought together representatives from institutions linked to research, innovation, education, public administration, and the productive sector. Participating in the opening panel were Carlos Nabil Ghobril, representing the São Paulo State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply; Regina Celia de Matos Pires, representing the General Directorate of the Agronomic Institute (IAC); Fernando Gonçalvez Neto, director of Grupo Jacto; Elvis Fusco, executive superintendent of the Shunji Nishimura Technology Foundation; and Dirceu de Mattos Jr., lead researcher and director of CCD-SB100.
The Seminar brought together researchers and scholarship holders from the different institutions that are part of the Center, including the Faculty of Architecture, Arts, Communication and Design (FAAC/Unesp), in Bauru; the Faculty of Agronomic Sciences (FCA/Unesp), in Botucatu; the Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences (FFC/Unesp), in Marília; the Institute of Biosciences (IB/Unesp), in Rio Claro; the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (Esalq/USP); the Biological Institute; Fatec Pompeia Shunji Nishimura; and Fatec Cotia.
Representatives from FAPESP, research, innovation, and education institutions, and productive sector organizations also participated. Among the guests were representatives from Centro Paula Souza; the Brazilian Institute of Data Science (BIOS/Unicamp), another Science for Development Center supported by FAPESP; the Pecege Institute; the Marília Medical School (FAMEMA); the Alta Paulista Technological Innovation Center (CITAP); Coopercitrus; the Coopercitrus Foundation; and Hinove Fertilizantes.
During the event, scientific and technological results were presented by the different Squads that are part of CCD-SB100, structured around the axes of Agronomic Knowledge, Computational Knowledge, Information, and Communication. The presentations highlighted the complementarity between the Center’s different areas of activity and their contributions to the development of the Smart B100 Platform.
Another highlight of the program was the panel dedicated to artificial intelligence, data, and their impacts on decision-making processes in agriculture. With the participation of researchers and invited representatives from the productive sector, the activity broadened the debate on the possibilities of applying these technologies within the context of CCD-SB100 and in the development of solutions for the agricultural sector.
The Center’s scholarship holders also actively participated in the program through a poster session, where projects and research results under development within CCD-SB100 were presented. The activity facilitated the exchange of experiences among students, researchers, and guests and increased the visibility of the different research fronts developed by the Center.
On the second day, the program was specifically aimed at integrating CCD-SB100 researchers and developing the Smart B100 Platform. Discussions covered the current stage of the platform, the next steps in its development, and the contributions of the different Squads to the consolidation of the tool.
The Seminar also included governance meetings and dialogue sessions among researchers, members of the Executive Committee, and the Curatorial Board of CCD-SB100, focused on evaluating the Center’s development and aligning the project’s next steps.
By bringing together different areas of knowledge, institutions, and representatives of the productive sector around common objectives, the II Research Seminar reinforced the interdisciplinary and collaborative nature of CCD-SB100 and its purpose of transforming scientific knowledge into solutions applicable to agriculture. The meeting also strengthened the articulation between science, technology, and the productive sector, a central element for the development of tools capable of contributing to the contemporary challenges of agricultural production.
