Pecege supports the 53rd Piracicaba International Humor Exhibition, which discusses artificial intelligence and human creativity

Pecege supports the 53rd Piracicaba International Humor Exhibition, open to visitors until November 1, 2026, at Engenho Central. Considered one of the main cultural initiatives in the municipality and an international reference in graphic humor, this edition of the event has as its theme “AI x HI – The Duel of the Century: Algorithm vs. Soul,” which proposes a reflection on the advancements of artificial intelligence and the role of human creativity.

The partnership reinforces Pecege’s institutional presence in a nationally relevant initiative and expands the institution’s connection with culture, innovation, creativity, and the development of Piracicaba. The event brings together the Piracicaba City Hall, the Department of Culture, sponsors, the Exhibition organization, participating artists, and the community of the municipality.

According to Daiane Fausto, Pecege’s Institutional Relations Manager, the edition’s theme aligns with the institution’s work, which develops and uses technology, artificial intelligence, and automation solutions to support processes, expand access to knowledge, and create new possibilities for organizations and people.

“This edition’s theme dialogues very interestingly with the moment we are living. At Pecege, we closely follow the transformations brought about by artificial intelligence and work to transform technology into solutions that generate value for people and organizations. The Exhibition brings this discussion to another territory, that of art and creativity, showing that technology and humanity do not need to be seen only as opposites, but can be starting points for new forms of creation and reflection,” highlights Daiane.

Panel in front of Pecege

As part of the initiative to bring art closer to the institutional environment, Pecege renewed the panel located in front of the institution. The new work was created by designer Matheus Camargo and pays homage to the 53rd edition of the Humor Exhibition.

“It was an honor to receive the invitation to create the illustrations and titles for this panel, an incredible opportunity and great visibility. As an illustrator since childhood, it was a fantastic experience to break away from the routine of being on the computer all day and create something 100% manual and of my own authorship,” says Matheus.

Created in 1974, during the military dictatorship, the Piracicaba International Humor Exhibition emerged from meetings between artists, journalists, and intellectuals from Piracicaba at Café do Bule. The history of the initiative served as inspiration for the creation of the panel.

According to Matheus, research on posters from previous editions revealed the presence of recurring elements in the event’s visual identity. Among them is the figure of the clown, chosen by the organizers and founding cartoonists as a symbol of the graphic language of humor, irreverence, and cultural resistance.

“To create the art for this project, I analyzed posters from previous editions of the event, looking for common elements that could serve as inspiration. I discovered that, during the military dictatorship, the organizers and founding cartoonists of the Exhibition realized the need for an instantly recognizable trademark. The figure of the clown was chosen as a symbol of the graphic language of humor, irreverence, and cultural resistance,” explains the designer.

Based on this reference, Matheus developed sketches of clowns in different formats, composing the scene and directing the characters towards the panel’s title, which changes weekly. The piece values the partnership and visually reinforces Pecege’s connection with the cultural initiative, in addition to representing the dialogue between technology, art, and creativity proposed in this edition.

Matheus’s relationship with the Exhibition also has a family character. Son of artist and illustrator Celso Camargo, his mentor, he has followed his father’s participation in national and international humor exhibitions since childhood.

“The Humor Exhibition has a profound meaning for me. My father, Celso Camargo, a renowned artist and illustrator, was my mentor and taught me everything I know about art. Since I was little, I have had the privilege of witnessing his participation in humor exhibitions, both national and international, where he won numerous awards and mentions. These experiences inspired and shaped my journey as an artist,” says Matheus.

In addition to supporting a prominent cultural initiative in Piracicaba, Pecege has been strengthening its ties with culture and creativity and encouraging Pecegers to learn about, appreciate, and participate in cultural activities. The convergence of technology, education, and culture contributes to broadening the debate on the transformations brought about by artificial intelligence and on the importance of preserving critical thinking and the human capacity to create.
